Bobby Stevens, infielder
Who is he?
An infielder hastily promoted to the Tides during their mid-May stretch in which the Orioles summoned several Orioles to fill holes. Stevens apparently had decided to make being the fifth infielder for the Frederick Keys his career; he played 81 games for Frederick in 2009; 95 games for Frederick in 2010; 79 games for Frederick in 2011 (plus ten for AA Bowie); and 51 games for Frederick in 2012 (with 3 in Norfolk and 2 in Bowie) before being released in June. He was signed by the Braves’ organization and hit .200 between Class A and Class AA. He was granted minor-league free agency after the season, even though he had only five years’ experience, because he had been released by the organization that had signed him to his first contract.
Although Stevens will only be 26 next season, it looks like he’ll have to play in independent ball if he wants to continue playing baseball professionally.
