Sammie Starr, infielder
Who is he? Why did he play for the Tides?
Sammie Starr is a short (5’8″), 24-yar-old Canadian infielder who played most of the season at Delmarva, where he hit .238/.324/.350 in 106 games. Those numbers are close to his career totals; not surprising considering that the 430 plate appearances are over half his career total. He’s a non-prospect and will have a battle to avoid getting released.
Starr was the 75th player to play for the Tides in 2012, and he wore uniform number 75. He played in one game — the first game after his promotion — and it is believed that his promotion was a stunt so that the Tides could break the record for most players used in a season. That, and Delmarva was out of the playoff picture and close to Norfolk.
